WHEREAS, CYNTHIA THOMPSON MARCH, who was affectionately known as “Mother March” was born March 30, 1915 and,

WHEREAS, She used her life as an example to teach people in the city of Henderson, Rusk County, Texas; which have been marked by exemplary dedication to her community as well as to her Church and,

WHEREAS, Her love and desire to sever God was wonderfully demonstrated as she worked out her Soul’s Salvation in the Mother Zion Baptist Church, Sunday school, and in every walk of her life; and

WHEREAS, She justly earned the respect, admiration and high regard of all with whom she came into contact, and this community has sustained a great loss with her passing July 08, 2010, as she set an example of a steadfast, unwavering Christian by the life she lived;
　
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED this Day July 14, 2010 that the Honorable Ombudsman General speaking on behalf of Ombudsman International Inc. hereby recognizes the great contributions made by Mother Cynthia Thompson March, as a SAINT and offers to her family; her daughter, Cynthia Ann Sutton; son, Norman Isaiah March; and sisters, Lola B. Youth Preservation Colleges will give offenders a second chance in three East Texas CountiesPosted:

Friday's bus tour promotes youth preservation colleges

CENTER, TX (KTRE) Prison or education? That's a choice some first time and repeat offenders will have in three East Texas Counties.

Friday, judges from Nacogdoches, Center, and Henderson toured the region to promote youth preservation colleges.

It was once a segregated high school. This historic building has since taken on many names. Now it's getting a second chance, just like the offenders it will house.

"We can educate and train our parolees, our first time offenders to do those jobs to save America from paying more taxes on the recidivism rate," said Bishop L.J. Guillory, Ombudsman General to Ombudsman International, Inc. a not for profit United States Government Oversight Agency.
"I see the offenders that come before me that are first time offenders and you know, they make a mistake, but I believe in giving someone a second chance," said Shelby County Judge Rick Campbell.

Offenders can earn an Associate degree, or get their GED. Students can even study a specific trade. After graduating, students will return to court, to have their records erased.
"Our students, 17 through 24. Well you can make a choice, a conscious decision to go to college for two years and get an education, become a productive citizen, rather than a burden on the state or you can go to prison," said CEO, and creator of the school's curriculum, Dr. Merilyn Session.

"Their tuition's, their housing, their food. Everything is going to be paid for by the tax dollars that are already paying for them to be on parole or be in prison," said Guillory.
"They've got the grants to get the school up and running but organizers say this building still needs help." "We need this place cleaned up. We need it painted. We need the roofs re-done, we need some maintenance work on the building that the grants are not going to cover," said Session.

With the community behind them, organizers believe the colleges will transform lives.
"Just show them we care and that we love them and they can become productive citizens again," said J.P. of Precinct 2 for Nacogdoches County, Dorothy Tigner-Thompson.
It will help those who've done wrong, make right.

Organizers hope the first preservation college can get underway by September.
Again, they do need volunteers to get this building ready.

The Hon. Bishop Guillory and NLC Applauds Congressman King for His Leadership and Support of First Responders

Washington, DC – Donald J. Borut, executive director of the National League of Cities, released the following statement today supporting Congressman King’s bipartisan efforts to allocate the 700 MHz D block of spectrum to public safety:

“The National League of Cities applauds Congressman Peter King for introducing the Broadband for First Responders Act of 2010. For years, state and local first responders have been seeking the necessary spectrum to build a modern, reliable communications network. By allocating the 700 MHz D block of spectrum to public safety, the Broadband for First Responders Act of 2010 finally provides this opportunity.

“This bipartisan legislation will ensure that when seconds count, our cities’ public safety personnel will be able to share information with each other, their citizens, and state and federal responders. For local leaders, ensuring the safety of citizens by giving first responders the means to act quickly and appropriately when lives are at risk is always the top priority. The National League of Cities looks forward to working with Representative King, Congress, and the Administration to allocate the 700 MHz D block to public safety.”

New Law In Arizona

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed into law a controversial bill that seeks to crack down on illegal immigration.

The sweeping measure will make it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally. It will also require local police officers to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are in the country illegally.

It takes effect 90 days after the current legislative sessions end in the next several weeks.
Before signing the bill, Brewer called the measure "another step forward in protecting the state of Arizona."

She said the bill "represents another tool for our state to use as we work to solve a crisis that we did not create and the federal government has refused to fix -- the crisis caused by illegal immigration."

Earlier, President Obama called the bill "misguided" and said it could violate people's civil rights. He said he's instructed the Justice Department to see if it is legal.

The bill's Republican sponsor, state Rep. Russell Pearce of Mesa, said Obama and other critics of the bill were "against law enforcement, our citizens and the rule of law."
Civil rights activists have said the bill would lead to racial profiling and deter Hispanics from reporting crimes.

Brewer said she wouldn't tolerate racial profiling.
Hundreds of protesters gathered at the State Capitol complex Friday calling on Brewer to veto the legislation.

Demonstrators have been camped outside the Capitol since the measure passed out of the Legislature on Monday. Their numbers have grown steadily throughout the week, with buses bringing protesters from as far away as Los Angeles.
About a dozen supporters of the measure also gathered.
